Voorhout

In the heart of the ‘Bollenstreek’ area you will find the village of Voorhout, part of the municipality of Teylingen (next to Voorhout, consisting of the villages of Sassenheim and Warmond). The ‘Bollenstreek’ is known for its long history of growing flower bulbs. In this area near the historical city of Leiden, near the beautiful beaches of the North Sea and close to the major Dutch cities (Amsterdam, the Hague, Haarlem and Rotterdam) more than 30 years ago something beautiful emerged and continues to flourish…

A Village, a Club, a Dream!

In the year 1992 a group of people in the village of Voorhout took the initiative to found a hockey club. Initially the club had to play its matches on the lawn of the local trade and craft school (KTS). During that first period, confirmation was obtained that starting a new hockey club in Voorhout was feasible. The new club, named MHC Voorhout, grew fast. On the municipal sports park adjacent to the local football and handball club, a clubhouse was built, and the first sand field was constructed. The village of Voorhout and its field hockey club continued to grow to such an extent that within 6 years a second sand field had to be built while simultaneously the first sand field was converted into a water field. From that time on, MHC Voorhout was the second biggest sports club, only outdone in size by the local soccer club (where the famous goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar started his career). Since its establishment, the club managed to achieve good results at regional and over the years also at national level for both the men/boys-line and the women/girls-line. In the year of 2023, the municipality rewarded the success of MHC Voorhout by converting the last sand field into a water field and sponsoring an extra semi-sand field. In the meantime, in 2018 a group of male enthusiasts started a veteran team to compete in the regional competition. That group continues to play with great enthusiasm and represents a very active team of volunteers within the club. The recent years they have participated in various international tournaments and this, together with the completion of the new fields, has led them to pursue their dream: organizing their own international tournament in the village of Voorhout.
